1000 suppliers join us on the road to sustainability

By Cytiva

Cytiva has successfully onboarded 1000 suppliers with EcoVadis - a worldwide trusted provider of business/ ESG (environmental, societal, governance) ratings for global supply chains

After more than three years of continual effort, our sourcing team has now successfully onboarded their 1000th supplier with EcoVadis.

One method of determining a company’s sustainability performance is through using EcoVadis — a worldwide trusted provider of business sustainability/environmental, societal, and governance (ESG) ratings for global supply chains. The EcoVadis platform guides organizations through the assessment of the environmental, social, and ethical risks and efforts associated with their supply chains and own business model.

Cytiva uses Ecovadis scoring to select its key partners through green and red spend criteria. More importantly, we leverage the detailed assessments to drive continuous improvement in supplier sustainability performance and to identify best in-class partners who can help us accelerate our carbon footprint reduction journey. — Keith Burgio, Group VP and CPO, Cytiva.

The green spend tracks the share of purchasing spend from suppliers with an EcoVadis assessment score of 55 and above — those qualifying as engaged suppliers. Red spend helps us better monitor suppliers that require corrective action, and includes suppliers with a score under 36.

Now why do we need to engage our suppliers?

It starts with our customers. Most companies (91%) take sustainability criteria into account for purchasing decisions. (1). Customers are asking for increased transparency of sustainability data earlier in their purchasing decisions. And to be able to provide that data, we need to work with our vendors, who work with their own vendors. Since approximately 95% of our CO2 emissions are actually Scope 3 emissions this means emissions are controlled by our vendors (i.e., purchased goods and services) or through distribution (i.e., logistics), which means everyone in the value chain has to work together to drive sustainability.

Cytiva is committed to helping our suppliers become EcoVadis assessed. We know we cannot achieve our sustainability promises alone. Through our ongoing collaboration with both our customers and our suppliers, we can makes our entire value chain healthier by tracking potential sustainability opportunities, risks, and remediation action plans in order to create ESG benefits together.
