FAQ
The unit controls surface temperature. It can be set to any value above ambient. This ensures that the product will not see a higher temperature. There is an additional mechanical safety thermostat.
A RTD sensor is placed under the bag to be warmed. The surface temperature is then measured and controlled.
The headspace of the bag in the WAVE Mixer can be purged with air, nitrogen or any gas. Typical bag materials have O2 permeability < 300 cm^3-mil/100in^2-day-atm. You can also leave the headspace empty.
Cytiva supplies special bags called M*Bag which are specifically designed to dissolve solids. These bags have a large (1 inch diameter) screw cap port that makes introducing powders easy. Trials have shown the WAVE Mixer to be very effective for dissolving solids.
The most important parameter is the amount of liquid fill in the bag. If the bag is more than 80% full there is little room for the liquid to move and mixing is very slow. The tilt angle and rocking rate also influence the mixing time. Both these parameters can be adjusted in the WAVE Mixer for optimum operation.
