FAQ
The same UNICORN software is used for filtration and chromatography. This means that the same steps/methods can be used and less training is thus required if using the software for both filtration and chromatography.
For UniFlux systems there is a specific strategy developed that supports the cross flow filtration application.
Yes. Only small changes are required when transferring methods from UniFlux 10 to the larger systems.
Process parameters developed on ÄKTAcrossflow can be used on the UniFlux systems but UNICORN methods cannot be transferred between the two systems. The hardware in ÄKTAcrossflow and UniFlux is very different and therefore the strategies and instructions for the two systems are very different.
UniFlux 400 can fit four hollow fibers. The application needs to be considered in order not to exceed the flow rate of the system. We have also shipped customized UniFlux systems with two or six hollow fibers installed. If six hollow fibers are used only low shear rates can be used.
The conversion between cassettes and hollow fibers takes approximately an hour for UniFlux 10 and 400. For UniFlux 30 and 120 conversion from cassettes to hollow fibers takes about 3 hours. The same time is needed for conversion from hollow fiber to cassettes on UniFlux 30 and 120 but the first time that a UniFlux 30 AH or 120 AH is converted from hollow fibers to cassettes, a longer time will be necessary as the cassette holder and hydraulic unit need to be fitted onto the system. The first conversion of the UniFlux 30 AH and 120 AH need to be done by Cytiva Service.
The triple inlet valve can be ordered as an accessory to UniFlux 10. The triple inlet valve can be fitted before the transfer pump and enables the different fluids such as product, buffers, and cleaning solutions to be filled in to the tank without switching tubing.
UniFlux systems are supplied with electronic documentation on a CD. If paper documentation is needed this can be ordered as an accessory. The documentation contains: assembly drawing, general specifications, piping and instrumentation diagram, equipment list, EC declaration of conformity, electrical schematics, functional test records, calibration certificates, material certification, software configuration description, software revision document, spare part list, and component manuals.
UniFlux 10 uses a diaphragm pump. UniFlux 30, 120, and 400 use a rotary lobe pump.
The flow rate range of UniFlux 30 is 3 to 60 l/min. The flow rates ranges for all UniFlux systems are:
UniFlux 10: 0,5 to 10 l/min
UniFlux 30: 3 to 60 l/min
UniFlux 120: 12 to 120 l/min
UniFlux 400: 40 to 400 l/min
See the UniFlux Data file.
Weight in tank, volume in system and tank, conductivity, pH, temperature, pressure and mixer speed.
As a standard the tank is equipped with a safety valve, volume measurement, sight glass with lamp, man-hole, wheels, and electrical cabinet. In addition, various accessories can be ordered with the tank - see the Data file for information on the different accessories.
Yes, all tanks are supplied with a vent filter connected on the tank lid.
For UniFlux 10 tubing is supplied with the hollow fiber conversion kit to fit size 5 and 6 cartridges.
UniFlux 30 and 120 are designed for size 55 cartridges. Size 35 or 75 can also be used and a spool piece kit is then needed which can be ordered as an accessory. The size 75 cartridges will not fit within the frame of the system. Once mounted, the cartridges will stick out on the top of the system.
UniFlux 400 is designed for size 65 cartridges. Size 45 or 85 can also be used and a spool piece kit (can be ordered as an accessory) is needed.
Yes. A riboflavin test is performed for each tank before delivery to ensure that the spray balls gives an optimal function.
No tank is included with the base UniFlux 10 system. The 5 or the 10 liter tank needs to be added as an accessory.
Conversion kits can be ordered as an accessory for running both filter formats.
For the UniFlux 30, 120 and 400 the cassette holder can be mounted on the system once hollow fibers are used. This avoids cumbersome and time-consuming removal of the Kvick Flow cassette holder.
