5 reasons you need a Typhoon™ laser scanner in your lab

By Cytiva

We believe that imaging solutions should redefine image quality, flexibility, and reliability. So, our team developed the Typhoon™ laser scanner to get you data you can trust, quickly and easily. Here are the top 5 reasons you need one in your lab.

Whether your work lies in academia or industry, whether you are a single lab or part of a core facility with shared resources, we understand that access to a trusted imaging system for nucleic acid and protein quantification is an indispensable part of your research workflows. A functional imaging system should give your team the flexibility that it needs to grow, and provide high quality data the first time round for everyone you work with.

That’s why we developed the Typhoon™ laser scanner.

Read on to find out how the Typhoon™ can become one of your most valuable team members and discover the top 5 reasons why you need one in your lab.

1: Image quality and sensitivity

What’s more important in an imaging system than image quality?

The latest generation of Typhoon™ laser scanners are designed to provide the highest performance for the most demanding applications. They enable you to get the data you need for accurate quantification with precise sensitivity and resolution.

Typhoon™ laser scanners provide extremely sensitive detection (5.6 pg of Phosphorylase B, Cy5™ dye) using Fujifilm optics and a linear dynamic range of up to five orders of magnitude, giving you high quality images every time.

2: A versatile and modular scanner that works for the whole lab

We designed our Typhoon™ laser scanners to be ideal for shared laboratories, enabling your team to work together seamlessly, whatever their imaging needs.

There are five different standard configurations of Typhoon™ scanners (Typhoon™ IP, NIR, NIR Plus, RGB, and 5), a wide range of upgrade kits, and a custom filter box.

From Phosphorimaging to florescence gel and blot imaging across up to five channels, our Typhoon™ laser-scanner platform can be used in a variety of applications, including:

  • Phosphorimaging
  • Quantitative whole-body autoradiography (QWBA)
  • Gel-shift assay analysis
  • Western blot imaging

3: Unmatched scan area

Your research shouldn’t be limited by your equipment. Typhoon™ laser scanners offer a 40 × 46 cm scan area, enabling you to image and quantify up to 20 gels and blots or two DIGE gels simultaneously. Coupled with the large imaging plates (35 × 43 cm), the system offers plenty of room for phosphorimaging large tissue or animal sections and is considered gold standard for QWBA.

4: High-quality imaging, made simple and secure

Labs and core facilities benefit from staff that have a wide variety of knowledge and experience, but that also means not everyone has the same expertise in using imaging systems to their potential.

Typhoon™ imaging systems enable both novice and experienced users to capture high quality images and demonstrate image integrity from capture to publication.

They feature Auto PMT, Pre-Scan, and intuitive software with automatic and semi-automatic scan functions for the best signal-noise ratio and the highest dynamic range. The software* also embeds each image with a digital fingerprint based on SHA-256 algorithms. These fingerprints remain with the images throughout their lifecycle, and enable users to check image integrity using our Image Integrity Checker.

For image analysis, the latest version of our ImageQuant TL software provides freeform drawing tools and modules for array analysis and colony counting. Images taken on the Typhoon™ system are also stored in formats that retain the highest dynamic resolution for florescence and phosphorimaging applications and work seamlessly with ImageQuant TL software, making it the ideal companion for your Typhoon™ laser scanner.

5: A reliable imager that won’t let you down

You shouldn’t have to worry about technical issues slowing you down. We’re commited to continuously testing and improving all our products. So, our Typhoon™ laser scanners inherit the reliability that our customers have come to expect from our ÄKTA, Biacore, and Amersham brands.

Our latest generation of instruments has required the fewest service calls received by our team since 2016. Although, if you do ever need assistance, our team of expert imaging troubleshooters are available to offer scientific and technical support.
