Quartz microfiber filter
Sample acidic gases with pure quartz microfiber filters — designed for air monitoring.
Frequently asked questions
Quartz microfiber filters are comprised of pure quartz fibers and no binding agent. The pure silica composition prevents the quartz microfiber filter from reacting with acidic gasses, which can occur with borosilicate glass filters.
What applications are quartz microfiber filters recommended for?
Quartz microfiber filters have very low trace metals and are high temperature resistant. They can be used for heavy metal analysis of particulate matter and in sampling of stacks, flues, and aerosols in air monitoring. Some quartz microfiber filter applications include:
- Sampling acidic gases
- High temperature gas monitoring applications (>500oC)
- Air pollution analysis
- PM10 sampling
Which grades of quartz microfiber filters are available?
Filter papers are graded using their filtration characteristics such as retention, flow rate, filter thickness, and weight. The grades of Whatman™ quartz microfiber filter include:
- QM A: for sampling acidic gases, stacks, flues, and aerosols
- QM B: for use in specific air monitoring applications
- QM C: for analysis of particulate matter and air quality monitoring
- QM H: for heavy metals analysis
Whatman™ quartz microfiber filters come in pre-cut circles, with a range of dimensions available, making them applicable to a wide array of use cases.
