Effective against gram negative and gram positive microorganisms.
- Penicillin interferes with the final stage of synthesis of the bacterial cell wall.
- Streptomycin inhibits elongation at transpeptidation step during protein synthesis and binds to 30S subunit, causing misreading.
- Common working concentration for penicillin is 100 U/mL; for Streptomycin: 100 μg/mL.
Penicillin/Streptomycin is a broad spectrum bacteriostatic with activity against gram negative and gram positive organisms.
