Sensor chip formats for Biacore systems
Biacore sensor chips are available in two formats.
Series S sensor chips are for use with Biacore 1 series, Biacore 8 series, Biacore S200, Biacore T200, and Biacore 4000 SPR systems.
Sensor chips not designated with Series S are designed for Biacore X100, Biacore 3000 and Biacore C SPR systems.
Avoid unwanted binding with PEG surface
Sensor Chip PEG is a polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based sensor chip that offers an alternative to dextran-based surfaces where unwanted binding of analyte can occur. The flat surface allows interactions closer to the surface, which is beneficial when the interaction partner in solution is multivalent or very large.
The protein-repelling property of PEG chains minimizes unwanted binding while the -COOH groups provide a functional attachment site for immobilization/capture of molecules of interest.
Coupling chemistry for a range of functional groups
Amine coupling, utilizing EDC/NHS chemistry, is the most common ligand immobilization approach. Thiol (-SH), aldehyde (-CHO), and maleimide (C[O]NHC[O]) coupling are also possible with this surface using the appropriate chemistry.
