Viral vectors are fundamental to gene therapy and gene modified cell therapies which are the frontier of modern medicine. 

 

Welcome to this introduction presentation, a part of a series of online courses, developed together with NIBRT and Pall, on viral vector production for gene therapy.

 

It contains:

- An introduction to gene therapy and current market landscape by Dr. Adam Pritchard (NIBRT)

- A practical demonstration: cell culture startup

- A practical demonstration: suspension cell culture

- A practical demonstration: adherent cell culture

 

This course will take you about two hours to complete.

 

 

The full learning plan is a complete series of online self-paced courses consisting of nine hours of learning (six hours of lecture and three hours of lab demonstration recordings (13 videos)). 

 

The complete series covers upstream scale up, downstream processing, and analytics of viral vectors used in gene therapy. The course package focuses on theory and technical demonstrations of viral vector scale up with bioreactors, chromatography, principles of depth filtration, tangential flow filtration, and analytics. 

 

You will learn theory and technical demonstrations of:

- Upstream cell culture and transfection for viral vector manufacturing

- Scale up of cell culture: expansion techniques and bioreactors used for adherent and suspension cells

- Purification of viral vectors: downstream purification techniques and limitations, empty vs full separation, clarification, concentration, TFF, anion exchange, and affinity column chromatography techniques

- Analytical assays used for viral vector QC
