The highly asymmetric nature of Vivid plasma separation (PS) membranes allow the cellular components of the blood (red cells, white cells and platelets) to be captured in the larger pores without lysis, while the plasma flows down into smaller pores on the downstream side of the membranes.
- High plasma yield - Achieve high-quality plasma in less than two minutes with ≥ 80% plasma yield. The rapid separation process yields plasma similar in HPLC and SDS PAGE profiles to traditional centrifuged plasma.
- Low analyte binding - Low, nonspecific binding of common diagnostic biomarkers and target analytes. Nonspecific binding of clinically relevant biomarkers is a concern when working with porous materials in diagnostic applications.
- Dependable performance - Efficient removal of whole blood cellular components, including red cells, white cells, and platelets.
- Low hemolysis - Hemolysis levels significantly lower than glass fiber media generated plasma.
- Device integration - Compatible with point of care (POC) and point of use (POU) diagnostic platforms such as lateral-flow test strips and microfluidics.
Plasma separation membranes are integral to molecular diagnostic operations is the generation of high-quality plasma from whole blood samples. Vivid plasma separation membranes are optimized for one-step plasma separation from whole blood without the need for centrifugation. Whole blood processed through the Vivid plasma separation membrane has shown equivalent 2DE protein profiles for the cardiac biomarker Troponin I as compared to centrifuged plasma. The protein concentration of clinical biomarkers is not reduced when processed through the membrane making it an ideal material for diagnostic applications.
The three grades are designed specifically for application use:
- GF is not post treated and is designed for small volumes of blood.
- GX grade is designed for small blood sample volumes (e.g., fingerstick) and compatibility with microfluidic devices and high sensitivity detection regimes (e.g., electrochemical).
- GR material is designed for larger volumes of blood typically found in lateral-flow applications.
