Overview
Cytiva's MembraClear filter is designed for asbestos sampling by phase contrast microscopy (PCM). Asbestos sampling isolates these fibers from circulating air to determine concentrations.
- Mixed cellulose ester membranes designed for use with the ‘hot block method’ by becoming transparent with acetone vapor treatment, distinguishing fibers from crystalline artifacts
- White/green grid for high contrast during asbestos testing using microscopy
- 0.8 μm pore size, with two filter diameter options
Cytiva's business offers a wide variety of sterile and non-sterile mixed cellulose ester membranes for various analytical applications.
High-contrast white/green grid, clear filter background
Cytiva's MembraClear mixed cellulose ester membranes are designed for quick and clear fiber counting. Acetone vapor treatment renders the PCM filter clear, preventing confusion between asbestos fibers and crystalline artifacts. The green grid on the filter’s white surface enhances contrast.
Asbestos testing using the membrane filter method
The membrane filter method is used to assess the risk of potential asbestos contamination. First, sample air is pumped through mixed cellulose ester membranes to extract airborne fibers. The asbestos concentration is analyzed with phase contrast microscopy, and asbestos fibers are analyzed in line with set rules that determine if a space is within airborne exposure limits.
