- Related to Gentamycin
- Interferes with the function of 80S ribosomes and protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells
- Resistance is conferred by the bacterial gene for aminoglycoside-3'-phosphotransferase that can be expressed in eukaryotic cells
- Common working concentration for G418 is 300 to 1000 μg/mL
Aminoglycoside is used as a selective agent of transfected mammalian, yeast, plant and bacteria cells
