Overview
- Excellent contrast for easy particle detection
- High internal surface area for sample adsorption
- High dirt loading capacity
- Biologically inert with good thermal stability
- Uniform microporous structure delivers high flow rates
Cytiva's Whatman MCE membrane filters are composed of cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate, giving the membrane a more uniform surface than pure nitrocellulose filters. Other sterile mixed cellulose ester membranes are available.
Sterile microbial cell counting
Cytiva's Whatman MCE membrane filters are biologically inert and possess a number of features that enable contaminant-free cell counting. They are manufactured using a nontoxic ink and without surfactants, decreasing the risk of inhibiting bacterial growth for culturing to determine microbial contamination in microbiological quality control.
Plain or gridded MCE membrane filters
MCE membrane filters are available plain for automated colony counting methods, or gridded for manual counting. Grid lines in white, black, or green are spaced at 3.1 mm intervals. The special ink used to apply grids is nontoxic and free from bacterial growth inhibitors.
For laboratories that prefer membranes sterilized by autoclaving for microbiological work, Cytiva provides Whatman membranes in packs with pads ready for laboratory autoclaving.
